LMA was born in an aluminum travel trailer in a parking lot next to a Silver Lake tire shop.

Loescher Meachem Architects (LMA) was created in 2012 and is recognized among Southern California’s most respected architectural practices, specializing in the design and construction of high-performance workplace, hospitality and adaptive reuse projects. Founded by architects Ben Loescher and John Meachem, former colleagues at Clive Wilkinson Architects, the pair honed their working relationship to capitalize on their respective knowledge and leadership experience in architectural design.
LMA is expert in high ambition projects and believes collaboration is the cornerstone of any successful project. Our projects often involve multiple designers and subject matter experts requiring a high degree of collaboration to achieve outcomes greater than that possible using a single member team. Our continuing relationships with blue-chip clients is a reflection of our commitment to client service and satisfaction. Our clients include some of the leading institutions and brands today, including Apple, Beats by Dre, Saatchi & Saatchi, Warner Brothers, Illumination Entertainment, Annapurna Pictures, NeueHouse, and Casamata Restaurant Group.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from UCLA, she earned a master’s degree in Architecture from the University of Virginia where she was awarded a certificate in design achievement. Her early career focused on residential design that ranged from prefab assemblies to high-end custom construction. At LMA, Rani’s projects have included commercial tenant improvements, restaurants, and off-the-grid residences.

Rani serves on AWA+D’s mentorship committee which helps to provide women with education and resources to navigate their careers in architecture. Outside of work, she loves to camp and road trip with her kids through many National Parks.

David Martinez

AIA, NCARB

David is a licensed architect who earned his Master of Architecture from the University of Southern California with a certificate in Landscape Architecture. This piqued his interest in the rich built and natural environments of Southern California. David is a Project Architect at LMA, and holds a position on the AIALA Historic Resources Committee where he gleans from his vast experience to help celebrate notable repurposed environments in the Los Angeles area.

He has a strong background in adaptive reuse and renovations of historic buildings, and leading award-winning projects. Throughout his experience he’s enjoyed building from the inherent character of existing buildings to give them new life. He’s managed projects of all scales, ranging from small tenant improvements to multi-story hospitality, turning barns into community spaces, and historic manufacturing buildings into lofts.

Outside of the office David enjoys building furniture for himself and also participating in recreational sports. He also enjoys attending Dodgers games (and is waiting to catch a ball).

Adam Ballard

AIA, WELL AP

Adam is a licensed architect in both California and Oregon, and joined LMA in 2018. He has helped execute a wide range of high-end projects from conception to completion, including world-class coworking spaces and cultural hubs. Adam is based in Portland and manages projects in greater Los Angeles and the Pacific Northwest.

Over the years, he has worked closely with clients to develop unique and specialized programs, has seen complex projects through the entitlements process, and has successfully coordinated entire project teams through permitting and construction.

As a WELL AP, Adam approaches every project with the end-user in mind and has a passion for seeing ambitious projects through to completion. For Adam, the most fascinating aspect of architecture is that every project comes with unique circumstances and opportunities, and he enjoys connecting a project’s context and distinct character to create something special every time. Adam holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Cal Poly Pomona.

McKenzie Liebl

McKenzie approaches each project with an open mind and believes that flexibility is key to creativity and problem-solving. Since joining LMA, she has worked on a multitude of creative office tenant improvement projects, each with its own unique challenges. She is interested in projects with specialized programs and finding solutions to challenging design problems.

Born and raised in the Midwest, McKenzie began her career in Kansas City. Her project contributions ranged from small-scale improvements and historic restoration interventions to hospital facade design. At LMA, McKenzie’s projects have included commercial tenant improvements, off-grid residences, restaurants, and retail. Her broad experiences, paired with the opportunity to work among diverse project teams, have reinforced her belief in the power of collaborative, discovery-based design.

McKenzie completed her Master of Architecture from The University of Kansas in 2016. While there she participated in a study abroad program in Paris, where she held an internship at Studio Odile Decq.

Jon Conover

Since joining LMA’s team in 2017, Jon has worked on a multitude of projects, each with their own complex requirements and goals. He has also worked on well-known entertainment companies’ headquarters and studios including Illumination Entertainment and Annapurna Pictures, as well as the AIA award-winning restaurant Damian DTLA. These projects have given him expertise in coordinating complicated, technical aspects of design and programming across multiple disciplines and consultants.

Jon received his Bachelor of Architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2017. During his undergraduate program, he won a Vellum award for his design-build furniture, as well as Best In Show for projects in multiple studios including his thesis project. He spent a year studying at the Virginia Tech Washington-Alexandria Architecture Consortium and held an internship at the D.C. Office of Little Diversified Architectural Consulting.

Lucy Lloyd

Lucy received her Masters of Architecture from UT Austin in 2020, and her BA in Spanish and Latin American Studies from Tulane University in 2016. Growing up, Lucy’s parents ran a small architecture practice out of their home in St. Louis, so the world of construction and drawing always has felt familiar to her. It wasn’t until she studied abroad in Havana, Cuba, that her real love for the built environment began. Despite her parents’ best efforts, she decided to give architecture a try by interning with a sole practitioner, Dennis Brady, focusing on historic preservation and small residential projects in New Orleans. During her masters degree, Lucy had several summer internships during her time in school—including, *fun fact*, an internship with LMA in 2019! In her free time, she loves working with her partner on creative film projects, and is interested in further exploring the connection between architecture and film.

Leah Wyatt

Leah earned her Master of Architecture from UT Austin in 2021, and her bachelor’s degree in political science from USC. After deciding that law school would involve too much reading, she pivoted to studying architecture, a field in which she felt she could have a more tangible impact on her community and environment. Upon earning her masters degree, she moved to New York City, where she spent some time managing construction projects and gaining hands-on building site experience. Now at LMA, she enjoys collaborating with coworkers and other trades to arrive at optimal solutions to organizational and logistical problems. When she is not working, Leah enjoys getting outside with her dog, Archie.

Michelle McCann

Michelle manages and coordinates LMA’s marketing and business development efforts, identifying areas of growth for the firm while handling their press relations campaigns, award submissions, and RFP/Q responses. Before joining LMA, Michelle worked at Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects, with an emphasis on media relations, lectures, and events. Michelle has extensive experience in office management in small to mid-sized firms, executive support, and event production.

Michelle studied textile design at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, Ireland, graduating with a first-class honors degree, and was highly commended in her undergraduate thesis.

Jenny LaNicca

Jenny has been part of the LMA team since its founding, contributing to the LMA identity and website as well as supporting various clients’ graphic and environmental design needs, including FIDM, Saatchi & Saatchi and Skydance.

In addition to her work with LMA, Jenny works on a wide range of projects including websites, corporate identities, environments and apparel.

Hilde

Hilde is the office mascot, official morale booster, full-time security guard and part-time menace (but always a good girl in our eyes). Found running through the streets of South L.A. and an accomplished escape artist, her boundless energy keeps us on our toes and reminds us that taking a moment to step away from our computers to give her a treat is never a bad idea.

Our Clients

Our clients are industry leaders who believe that well conceived and executed environments positively influence productivity, creativity and individual well-being.
