LMA has expertise in multiple areas:

Upcycling Existing Buildings

At LMA, we specialize in re-purposing structures, from historic renovations to warehouse conversions, and are experts in the challenges that come with that process, from “Change of Use” code issues and site-repurposing, to energy compliance, utility upgrades, and ADA requirements. We also strive to capture and celebrate the inherent beauty in these structures, balancing and contrasting new with old to find the best design solution for the client’s needs.

We feel that extending the life cycle of a structure is imperative to various sustainability goals: sprawl minimization, preservation of virgin materials, and energy conservation. Many cities are changing dramatically as industrial operations move away, leaving massive, sturdy buildings vacant, and adaptive reuse is seen as an effective way of reducing urban sprawl and the environmental impact of new construction.

High Performance Workplace

LMA’s Los Angeles office has its origins in the design of workplaces, with an emphasis on human comfort, performance and collaboration including traditional and “agile” environments. LMA’s completed projects include offices for Media Arts Lab, Saatchi & Saatchi, Team One, and Beats by Dre.

Media & Technology Environments

LMA’s Los Angeles office has completed multiple projects for industry leading media and technology companies, including recording, editorial, and production spaces for clients like Warner Brothers, Apple, Illumination Entertainment and Annapurna Pictures.

Hospitality

LMA is well versed in hospitality architecture and design, and has executed numerous projects ranging from high-end, luxurious environments to the refurbishment of existing, industrial spaces. LMA’s design philosophy is driven by our collaborative spirit, and ensures we have a deep understanding of our client’s brief and brand. Through storytelling and concept creation, we build spaces that reflect their values and embrace creative and sustainable design solutions. LMA is adept at spatial organization and programming for hospitality projects, providing functionality while paying particular attention to details, finishes, and the overall feel of a space.

Joshua Tree and San Bernardino County Land Use

LMA has expertise in San Bernardino County Land Use, having worked on entitlements for multiple projects in the Joshua Tree / Pioneertown area including the Pioneertown Motel, the Joshua Tree Farmers Market, and multiple other businesses in the hospitality space.

Earthen and Low Carbon Masonry

LMA has demonstrated experience in new earthen construction in California and New Mexico, having designed and obtained approvals for the first structural adobe in California in nearly two decades. The practice has taken a leadership role in the development of national earthen building standards, and collaborated with artists such as Elaine Cameron Weir, Santiago Borja, and Hans Baumann on earthen installations.
